Our
website
dealing with
footpath
matters.
During the latter
half of 2010 we began a survey of the
footpath network around Biddulph. Our
main objects in carrying out the
survey were to inform the residents of
the positions and official path
numbers of the 154 paths in the
parish. It was invisaged at the time
that this information would be
helpfull in assisting the public when
reporting path problems. Another aim
of the survey was to create an "as
walked" description of each path to
help those who were not familiar with
map reading to find their way around.
The final and VERY IMPORTANT function
of the survey was to provide an
up-to-date picture of the problems on
the paths which needed to be flagged
up to the County Council for action.
The survey took approximately five
months to carry out and was finished
during February 2011. Our findings
regarding path blockages, missing
finger posts and problems with the
official Definitive Map were all
forwarded to the appropriate
department at the County Offices at
Stafford.
Since the receipt of our survey
findings it is gratifying to note that
the Council has begun addressing the
problems which we had outlined and
rectified a good number of them and we
have an ongoing excercise in uploading
pictures of the Council's efforts to
our website. The council have recently
supplied us with details of the work
which they have recently carried out
and the work that they have scheduled
for the future .Biddulph will thus
have what we believe to be the first
"online" CONTINUOUSLY updated survey
giving an accurate picture of the
condition of its paths.
In addition we have a program of
ongoing footpath maintenance work
which we carry out in conjunction with
the council.
